Protecting the health of our colleagues and clients remains our priority but our practices are remaining open for pets who need our help with essential care and emergency treatment. We are taking every precaution to minimise the risk of spreading the virus and appreciate your support in helping us to keep everyone safe. We are closely following government guidelines and those of our industry bodies to ensure your pets get the care they need, This page is being regularly updated with advice on what steps to take if you think your pet needs to see a vet and to contains advice on keeping your pet happy and well during the coronavirus outbreak.

Covid-19 and your pet

​

According to The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), the current spread of Covid-19 is a result of human-to-human transmission. To date, there’s no evidence that companion animals can spread the disease. Therefore, there is no justification in taking measures against companion animals that may compromise their welfare.

 

What counts as emergency & essential care?

​

Current guidance means that at the moment we’re remaining open but limiting the type of care we offer to emergency and essential treatment only.

We can see your pet if:

• they’re unwell or injured and need to be assessed or treated

• delaying a visit to the vet will cause them distress, pain or suffering.

Please call us to discuss any other requirements so that we can decide on the best course of action.

We are also able to fill prescriptions – new or repeat – for pets who urgently need their medication.

If you have an appointment booked

Please contact us and we'll advise you on whether your appointment will go ahead.

If your appointment is confirmed and you’ll be coming into a practice please be aware that we have strict new measures in place for social distancing, to protect you and our colleagues. Your support in adhering to these measures is greatly appreciated.

Wherever possible, only one person should accompany your pet to the practice.

If you’re self-isolating and your pet needs essential care

​

Please follow this guidance:

• As a first option, ask a non-vulnerable family member or friend to bring your pet to see us.

• If you don't have anybody else who can bring them in, please call your practice and we’ll advise you on how we can care for them.

Pet owners diagnosed with Covid-19

​

If you’re diagnosed with the coronavirus or have symptoms, please follow this advice for interacting with your pet:

• Restrict contact with your pets as a precautionary animal health measure until more information is known about the virus.

• If your pet needs care, wash your hands before and after any interaction with them and wear a face mask if possible.

 

Keeping your pet happy while you’re self-isolating

There are lots of ways to maintain your pet’s health and wellbeing even if you’re stuck at home.

Here are some tips:

• Always adopt good hygiene and thoroughly wash your hands after interacting with your pets.

• Cats still need access outdoors or to a clean litter tray and outdoor cats can go in and out as normal.

• You won't be able to take your dog beyond your house or garden for exercise, but don't worry, there are lots of ways to keep your dog happy and healthy within your own home.
